Fri. 4/27/2007 Day#Who knows

So I won’t be tracking Day #’s anymore. To hard to remember and it’s pretty unimportant. I started on 4/1/2007 and it’s already been a month which is both crazy and cool.

Anywho…what did I accomplish today?

Well, having wrapped up the new pages I added yesterday on…well…yesterday I spent the morning reading an SQL book and continuing to beef up my knowledge of the SQL language as well as the SQL Server Management Studio a little bit.

I added yet another administrative page to the same site as I’ve been working on for the past couple of days. Didn’t really finish the page but I have the basic layout completed and I’ll polish it up Monday morning.

Then I spent a bit tweaking one of the pages from yesterday. Adding some additional validation checks as well as a new feature we call F12 Searching. F12 searching consists of entering a few characters of known information and then hitting F12 which then searches the database for the appropriate information that is similar to what you already typed in. It’s rather slick and helps prevent ugly dropdown boxes.

Then I realized that this blog is really quite useful when it comes to filling in my time card at the end of the week when I forget to keep up with that all week. So here I am updating it and hopefully I’ll spend a few minutes everyday keeping it updated so I can look at it if necessary and fill in what I’ve worked on and what projects I’ve helped with.

Perhaps I’ll just make it part of the end of my work day here instead of waiting until I get home to do it. Time will tell. Have a good weekend and see ya on Monday.

Wed/Thur 4/25-4/26 2007

Another grouping here.

So Monday and Tuesday I worked on various things on one site and Wednesday and Thursday (as well as Friday but as that’s today it get’s it’s own post!) I worked on the other site.

I added a couple new pages to the site for the Administrative users to do maintenance tasks related to their databases.

This involved reading in data from XML strings/streams and updating system menu drop down bars to give the correct options to access the pages I created. A majority of my time was spent sorting out how to deal with the XML string and get everything to read into the variables I had set up.

Prior to that I had already set up the page structures I would need in order to display the data. Said structures took about an hour per page to setup and once I got the XML sorted out for one page it was a simple matter to duplicate the work for the second page.

Mon/Tue. 4/23-4/24 2007

So yeah…You probably noticed that I didn’t make posts all week. I kind of forgot and kind of thought I didn’t care. Then Friday rolled around and I realized I had no idea what it was that I’d done all week. AH…talk about smacking myself in the face with the importance of my own idea.

So I’m grouping the days together as I can’t remember exactly what it was that I accomplished on the individual days but my work notebook happens to have some dates to separate things out.

So Monday and Tuesday I made a lot of bug fixes and added a handful of features the client had requested to one of the sites I’ve been working on since I started. Fixes included things like:

  • Validating some logic that wasn’t working properly resulting in pages not working as expected.
  • HAH…that’s all I can remember at the moment. If I recall anything else I’ll edit this but I doubt I’ll even try to remember.
