WOOHOO! I remembered on a Tuesday! Barely…;)
Anywho…today was a freakin waste. I accomplished TWO things…whoopty doo. First irritating day on the new job. It ended somewhat poorly too as I could’ve left at my normal 5 or 5:30 but instead because I was struggling and we wanted to release a new version of the website this afternoon I stayed and tried to finish up what I was working on but it just wasn’t making sense and coming together.
Most frustrating of all is that it was just plain and simple end of work day BS more than likely. Meaning I’ll get in tomorrow morning and BAM, knock it out in like 20 minutes. I kind of hope I do and I kind of hope I don’t. I’m not sure what the problem is. I’ve got to trace pretty much an entire procedure which is about 1000 lines and keep track of where everything is going and what each piece is doing so I know what is happening at the point where I’m making changes. Not the end of the world but frustrating because it won’t feel like I”m making any progress. Worst of all is that I feel like an idiot if I ask questions about simple (or what I perceive to be simple to these guys) so I generally don’t.
What better time to ASK questions then when I’m first beginning and when they still know/don’t expect me to know SQL. I should be asking questions every time they pop up. I’m going to wind up causing trouble for myself just because I DON’T ask questions.
I need to learn to open my mouth and take advantage of these guys while I can…before they expect things of me that I can’t deliver or decide that I’m wasting too much of their time by not asking the questions right when they pop up.
I ended the day by having Jenny come get me which worked well as she got there just a few minutes before the bus would have. I also wound up making a Long Island Ice Tea when I got home which really helped relieve some of the stress and irritation from the day although it was still a bit nasty. I’m pretty sure it was the Tequilla though. It tasted slightly better than last time I made them and we have Absolute Vodka now instead of Smirnoff. Guess I’ll have to find some GOOD tequilla to use.
