Got up and went in by 8:30 again. Extra half hour of sleep was beautiful! =D
Spent the first half to 3/4 of the day reading “Learning SQL” from Oreilly. Seems to be a decent book. I read slow. Really slow. Got through preface and 2 chapters. Read through some emails and other SQL docs that were sent to me as well.
Second half of the day was spent reviewing an app I’ll be working on next week and making some updates to. It’s a certification tracker for something or other. The way we do websites at MCG is amazing. Completely dynamic, everything is stored in databases and then generated from there using asp and C# and stuff I guess. I don’t know all the details yet but it’s very slick and cuts out all the manual hacking (writing) of HTML code.
It’s somewhat intimidating but all new stuff is; can’t wait to get my hands dirty getting into the real process of creating some new pages. They’ve created a nifty little tool to help them generate the website as well. Very cool stuff.
That’s pretty much it. End of the week. Things went pretty well as far as I’m concerned. Learned a lot and shed quite a bit of rust. Made a few mistakes based on coding conventions at the company but those are just things that happen until you actually KNOW what the conventions are so it’s all good.
Now it’s off to Grandma Carley’s for Easter weekend.
